The Majority caucus in parliament has advised the Minority Leader and his caucus to stop distracting them with frivolous and unfounded allegations of selectivity in recruitment of young Ghanaians into the various security services in the country.

Deputy Majority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei at a press conference in parliament on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, described the allegations of slot for majority MPs to recruit 30 youth into the security as false, baseless and totally unjustifiable going by the security architecture of the country.

“The Minority’s assertion that 276 NPP parliamentary candidates, including 138 sitting MPs, have each been given 30 recruitment slots is mathematically and administratively ludicrous.

“To suggest that 8,250 new recruits could be absorbed into our security forces, in a system that traditionally accommodates between 1,000 to 1, 200 recruits annually, shows a profound misunderstanding of the operational and financial frameworks of our security institutions,” the Deputy Majority Leader said.

The Minority caucus alleged at a press conference on Monday, May 20, that all NPP Parliamentary candidates have been allocated 30 slots each to select NPP loyalists to fill positions within the security services, including the Police and Army.

“The NDC Minority can authoritatively state that not long ago, the NPP government again illegally and fraudulently has given out 30 slots to all NPP parliamentary candidates across the country for recruitment into the security services,” he alleged.

Reacting to an allegation of the opposition party, the Deputy Majority Leader debunked the claims and urged the Minority to desist from spreading “misinformation and to respect the intelligence of Ghanaians.”

“We are compelled to address the baseless and preposterous allegations made by the Minority regarding the recruitment into the security services. These claims are not only false, but are a desperate attempt by the Minority to incite public disfavour against the government as we approach the 2024 general elections,” Hon Appiagyei said.

She further accused the Minority of deliberately distorting reality and maliciously fabrication to undermine the integrity of the government, stressing that, such allegations served only to provoke unwarranted tension and foster an environment of mistrust and political rivalry that our country does not need.

The Majority however assured the government led by President Akufo-Addo remained committed to fairness, transparency, and the rule of law and would not be swayed by such groundless accusations to work diligently to ensure the safety and security of Ghanaians.

Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh said the claims by the Minority as nothing but simple grounds creation to avoid shame of defeat at the upcoming general elections.

He said the NPP government would go to the elections and win with facts and figures from the polling stations and not the number of Ghanaians recruited into the security services.

The Majority Chief Whip, who is MP for Nsawam-Adoagyir, thus urged Ghanaians to ignore the NDC minority MPs for they lost focus and therefore looking for loophole to blame the government for their imminent defeat on December 7, polls.
