Register as a Voter to Elect Quality Leaders-Dr Worlanyo urges Citizens
An Independent Presidential candidate and spokesperson for the Grand Coalition of Ghana for election 2024, Dr Samuel Worlonyo Mensah has implored the citizenry to arm themselves with their permanent Voters Identification Cards (ID Cards) in order to determine the quality of leaders that would rule over them.
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana commenced limited registration of persons attainted the voting age of 18 and those who were unable to register for the 2020 general elections.
The exercises which began earlier this month is expected to end on Monday, May 27, 2024, for which reason Dr Worlanyo said persons who are yet to have their names in the voter register should quickly do so in order to determine whom to give their mandate to rule them from December 7.
According to him, it is only when the citizenry arm themselves with their permanent Voters’ Cards that they could ensure that they can determine the quality of leaders that will rule over them.
Speaking to EXPRESSNEWSGHANA, in his campaign office in Accra, last Thursday, Dr Worlanyo explained that, the voter registration gives ample opportunity to the citizenry to perform their civic responsibility and the power to determine their leader.
“This is an opportunity for those who missed out in the previous exercise to do so. I want to assure the people of Ghana, I’m ready to give them quality leadership. A leader with right economic knowledge, the development driven policies that will move this country out from borrowing and borrowing,” he said.
The registration exercises he said is to take care of those who had just attained 18 years, those Ghanaians who have not registered during the previous exercises and have also changed their jurisdiction to Ghana.
Dr Worlanyo stressed the need for the citizenry to get their voter ID Cards, saying, “Our voters’ ID card is our power. The earlier we have that power, the better. It’s not enough to criticize our leaders; we must also do that with our votes. If you make the right choices, your lives will be better. But if you make the wrong choices, you’ll live with it.”

He added that, “It’s important that we all exercise our civic duty. Let’s look for the right candidates that will make life better for all of us. If the country is not at peace, we can’t enjoy ourselves. The NPP (New Patriotic Party) and the NDC (National Democratic Congress) have failed and we cannot continue to live under this duopoly.”
Again, the Independent Presidential candidate said citizens who do not participate in exercising their civic duty have lost their “rights to complain”, stressing that “We need to get our voter ID Cards in order to participate in the electoral process”.
He also charged the EC to ensure they register every person who turn out to be registered so no one is disenfranchised in the December 7, 2024 general election.
“For those who have just attained 18 and those who were not around during the previous exercise, it is time to get them registered. You see thousands at campaign grounds and fewer people coming to vote. It’s important we changed that”.
“We all need to ensure that we do the right thing and move the country on the right path. We need to change our country from a negative to a positive path”, Dr Worlanyo added.
Asked about the registration and voting of minors in some parts of the country, he said it is part of the desperation by the political actors, mostly the NPP and the NDC, to outwit each other.
“It’s desperation that’s making them push those who are not eligible to go and register. We need to prevent people who are not eligible to register. We all have to be alert to ensure that whosoever is not qualified to vote should not be allowed to vote”, he emphasized.
