Centralised Limited Registration deprives Potential Voters: Della Sowah Bemoans
The Member of Parliament for Kpando, Hon Della Sowah, has attributed the low turned out of potential voters at the limited registration due to the centralized registration.
She said the EC’s decision to centralize the registration at its District offices has disenfranchised many Ghanaians including the people of Kpando who seek to partake in elections to enforce their Civic responsibility as a result of its limited centres
Hon Della Sowah made these observations when she visited the EC office on its last day of the limited registration on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
“Some of the people who have to travel a distance for the registration did not want to spend the extra money for transport fare. If registration had been done at the polling stations or electoral areas, many more people would have registered,” she bemoaned.
The situation, she added has denied several people the right to register and expressed the hope that the EC would have a change of heart in the near future so that many people would not be disenfranchised.
The Electoral Commission earlier opened the limited voters register for the registration of new voters ahead of the national Elections from Tuesday, May 7, to Monday, May 27, 2024.
Following calls and the number of persons turning out, the EC extended the exercises to Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
