Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, the Director of Legal Affairs of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has warned the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prepare for more revelations about the trial of Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Dr. Forson has been accused of causing financial loss to the state in the purchase of 200 ambulances.

In an interview on Accra-based Neat FM on May 31, 2024, Edudzi said that his party has evidence to prove that the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, through Attorney General Godfred Dame, is trying to jail Dr. Ato Forson even though he has done nothing wrong.

Edudzi said that the audio recording of a phone conversation between Godfred Dame and Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the Dr. Ato Forson trial, and the WhatsApp messages between the two men, released by the NDC, are just the beginning.

“If you remember, when this issue started, my brother Nana B said without thinking that the recording was done at the home of a Supreme Court judge. On Tuesday, the recording that was released, was it in a house? Wasn’t it a phone call?” he said in Twi.

Edudzi told NPP members who are making noise about the trial to learn from the Attorney General, who has gone quiet since the revelations started.

He said these things while responding to a request by Dr. Ato Forson to the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, for the rest of the trial to be shown live on TV.

The NDC has accused Godfred Dame of unethical and unprofessional behavior after Richard Jakpa, the third accused person in the ambulance purchase trial, said in court that the AG had met with him to discuss how to implicate Dr. Ato Forson.

At a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, the NDC played a 16-minute audio recording of a phone call between Godfred Dame and Richard Jakpa on the day Jakpa was supposed to testify in court.

In the recording, Dame is heard telling Jakpa to testify in a way that is different from what Jakpa had explained to him. Jakpa had said that Dr. Forson had done nothing wrong with the LCs he signed.

Jakpa told the Attorney General that the contract was for the purchase of 200 vehicles with 4 LCs, but Dame disagreed and asked Jakpa to accept his explanation because it wouldn’t cause him any harm.

However, Jakpa insisted that he could not do what Dame asked because there were letters that confirmed the details of the contract.

Dame is also heard in the recording telling Jakpa to make up a medical excuse so that he could travel.
