The selflessness and humility of the Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Teddy Nana Yaw Addi has led to widespread comparisons with one of Ghana’s former President, Jerry John Rawlings.

Born on Thursday, January 26, 1984, the NDC MP has been lauded for his remarkable humanitarian efforts. Known for his selfless service and deep connection with his constituents, Mr Addi stands out as an unconventional politician who prioritizes the well-being of the people he serves.

A Humanitarian at Heart
In an era where many politicians are criticized for distancing themselves from the electorate after winning office, Teddy Nana Yaw Addi breaks the mould. His commitment to serving the people of Ayenuanso transcends mere political promises. Addi is frequently seen engaging with the community, sharing meals, and participating in local activities, even in the most challenging circumstances. His genuine interactions with the downtrodden have earned him the reputation of a leader who not only understands but also lives the struggles of his people.

Hon Teddy Addi

Addi’s approach to leadership is reminiscent of Jerry John Rawlings, whose tenure was marked by a profound connection with the ordinary Ghanaian. Like Rawlings, Addi has not allowed his political success to create a barrier between him and the citizens. Instead, he continuously immerses himself in the community, earning the trust and admiration of those he serves.

International Recognition
Teddy Nana Yaw Addi’s humanitarian efforts have not gone unnoticed beyond Ghana’s borders. Recently, a video from Nigeria surfaced on social media, where a user urged politicians to emulate Addi’s “born to serve” ethos. This international recognition highlights the impact of Addi’s work and positions him as a role model for politicians across the continent.

Community Engagement
One of the most striking aspects of Addi’s leadership is his active engagement in the daily lives of his constituents. Unlike many MPs who retreat into the corridors of power, Addi remains visible and accessible. He participates in community events, listens to the concerns of his constituents, and works tirelessly to address their needs. His presence in the community is not just symbolic but is also a testament to his dedication to improving the lives of the people of Ayenuanso.

A Modern-Day Rawlings

The comparison to Jerry John Rawlings is significant. Rawlings, known for his charisma and populist approach, left an indelible mark on Ghanaian politics. He was a leader who could mobilize the masses and had a deep-seated belief in social justice and equity. Addi’s approach mirrors this, as he prioritizes humanitarian efforts and remains grounded despite his political achievements.

Addi’s ability to resonate with the grassroots is a quality that sets him apart in contemporary politics. His humility, coupled with his hands-on approach, makes him a beloved figure in Ayenuanso and beyond. This connection with the people is a powerful tool that not only endears him to his constituents but also strengthens the democratic fabric of the nation.
Teddy who gained popularity as an RnB musician is known for hits such as ‘Looking for Love’, ‘I Wanna Know’, ‘I Don’t Want to Be Right’ and ‘Betrayal‘.

In a 2015 interview with Accra-based Okay FM, Teddy Nana Yaw Addi disclosed the motivation to switch to the political lane despite being a renowned musician. According to him, he was first spurred on by his constituents who approached him to convince him a person of his pedigree is needy to bring development to the area.

“I have personally done things to support the area I come from and in all, I have engaged the youth. Many of the youth have seen what I have done for them and before the primaries; they approached me to tell me that the time has come for me to represent them in parliament. I simply couldn’t let them down and this urged me to participate in the elections on the ticket of the NDC”, he explained.

“60-70 of the roads in Ayensuano are in deplorable states. Most drivers who are contacted to cart farm products to the market centres charge high fees before they deliver the goods. But in most cases, the farmers find it hard to pay and the goods are left to rot”

“My other focus would be on education. We have a lot of intelligent but needy children in Ayensuano and to help them, I would set up a scholarship scheme to fund their education”, he said.

Since winning the trust of the people in the December 2020 polls, the NDC MP has refused to accept the government’s luxurious cars for MPs widely known as V8 and has chosen to rather invest his share in development projects within the constituency.

According to him, about 98 per cent of roads within the constituency were in deplorable states, affecting economic growth within the area.
