MP for Krachi West Establishes KG Block to Boost Early Childhood Education
Despite the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #4 aiming to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all,” children in Dadekro, an island and remote community within the Krachi West Constituency of the Oti Region, have lacked access to early childhood education facilities since the community’s establishment.
Children in Dadekro typically begin schooling at ages seven to ten due to the risks associated with trekking long, rocky, and bushy distances to nearby communities for education. This delay means they miss out on early learning opportunities, impacting their cognitive, language, and psychosocial development. As a result, many perform poorly in primary school and eventually drop out to engage in fishing.
To address this issue, Hon. Helen Adjoa Ntoso, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Krachi West, established a new kindergarten (KG) school in Dadekro. The KG was funded through the MP’s Common Fund and personal resources to enhance early childhood education in the community.
During a ceremony attended by excited community members, the MP handed over the classroom block to the community and promised to provide additional materials to enhance teaching and learning.
Helen Ntoso urged parents to support her efforts and those of the teachers by providing food and other necessities for the children. She also encouraged the community to maintain the classroom blocks to ensure their longevity.
The MP further assured the supply of play items such as swings, bouncers, rockers, and jumpers to create an engaging learning environment for the KG pupils.

The chiefs and people of Dadekro praised the MP for fulfilling her promise and assured that they would maintain the classroom to ensure it serves its purpose, particularly for early childhood education.
