Parliament Committee Inspect Progress of Work of Boankra Inland Port
The Parliamentary Select Committee on Roads and Transport has paid a working visit to Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal ( BILT ) Project Wednesday 3rd July 2024.
This forms part of oversight responsibility of the Committee.
A fact funding mission that seeks to inspect and settle the misunderstanding surrounding the project.
In a PowerPoint presentation during the tour Mr. JB Kwranteng, the Project Manager revealed that, the project is 40% complete.
The Inland port when fully complete will handle both imports and exports to and from the northern half of Ghana and the neighbouring Sahelian countries including Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali to the seaports at Tema and Takoradi.
According to Mr. Kwranteng, the Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal will also provide decongestion at the Ports of Tema and Takoradi whiles reduce transport cost of international cargo and enhancing operational efficiency at both Tema and Takoradi seaports.
Similarly the first phase of the project witnessed some key challenges which affect soomth operation.
This Mr. Kwranteng mentioned that, the
Business case design did not take account of actual topography of the project site, detailed geotechnical investigation and contract price based on the preliminary design as part of the challenges.
The total land area to be developed is 160 hectors representing 412.5 Acres.
Adding, the original scope of the works contract – Phase 1 consist Road Network Infrastructure, Sewage Treatment and disposable facilities, Container Yard, Container Freight Station ( CFS ), Warehouse/Customs Bonded Area, Truck Packing Area.
Mr. Kwranteng further stated that Phase (1) one also have commercial complex, Utility Zone, Equipment storage facilities, fuel station.
Other services include Post Office, Telecommunications, security facilities, Fire Station, Existing Administrative Building, Independent Consultant’s furnished and equipped offices and Interchange of Access Road at the BILT junction to ease traffic on the Accra – Kumasi main road.
However, the Chairman of the Committee and Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Nyarko Osei commend the Ministry, Consultant leading the project and the Constructor ( JUSTMOH ) for the progress so far.
He encourage the Ministry to endeavor to settle all finical agreement with the contractor in oder to avoid hualt as the contractor has not been paid sine November.
The entire project is expected to be completed in 2026.
