Parliament XI Beats Ex-Black Stars 3-1 in the Democracy Cup
In a stunning upset, Parliament XI, a team of MPs, defeated the Black Stars Legends 3-1 in the Democracy Cup match at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The match, celebrating 30 years of Ghana’s Parliamentary Democracy, saw Patrick Boakye-Yiadom (Obuasi East MP) score the opener, setting the tone for a thrilling encounter.
The legislators dominated the first half, creating numerous chances, while both teams showed defensive vulnerability. Boakye-Yiadom’s close-range goal beat legendary goalkeeper Richard Kingston, giving Parliament XI the lead.
Haruna Iddrisu (Tamale-South MP) and John Paintsil (Black Stars Legend) had earlier efforts ruled offside and cleared off the line, respectively.
The Black Stars Legends regrouped at halftime, introducing Laryea Kingston, Sulley Muntari, Agyemang Badu, Fatawu Dauda, and Ibrahim Tanko, which briefly shifted the momentum.
Muntari’s free-kick leveled the score, but Hamza Ibrahim’s second-half brace secured a 3-1 victory for the Parliamentarians over their illustrious opponents.”
