She outlined some of these projects and programmes as supply and distribution of 2,000 assorted school furniture to selected schools, construction of 200-bed capacity Boys Dormitory for Madina Technical Institute, construction of 1 No. 6- unit classroom block for Bara Basic School among others.
According to him, with the coming into effect of the Education Act, 2008( Act 778), the Kindergarten section has become an integral part of our basic education system, adding, however there has been a serious infrastructure gap over the years.
“ This edifice we are about to hand over today is therefore part of efforts to bridge this gap”, she said.
The commissioning of this kindergarten block, she said, is a testament to the efforts of government in ensuring that, regardless of social status or economic background, all children have access to quality and free early childhood care and development in order to adequately prepare them for basic education.
Madam Adjabeng said the assembly on its part would continue to ensure that the needed infrastructure and logistics are provided to aid in teaching and learning as well as monitoring and supervision to ensure the municipality becomes a beacon of educational excellence.
The Municipal Education Director, Mr. Kean Adjei Appiah said early childhood education marks the foundation upon which a child’s future success is built.
He said “ research has shown that early years of a child’s life are crucial for their cognitive, social, emotional and physical development”.
According to him, by investing in high quality early childhood education, we are not only preparing children for school but also laying the groundwork for their life long journey.
He commended the assembly for placing much premium on issues of education in the municipality, adding that the commissioning of the project would go a long way to drive positive change in the lives of the pupils as they would enjoy learning in a new environment.
Mr Appiah called on parents to continue playing the much needed supportive role integral to achieving the desired goals.
