NDC Vows to Retain Navrongo Central Seat in 2024 – MP Assures
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Sampson Tangombu Chiragia, has confidently stated that the party is determined to retain the constituency’s seat in the 2024 general election.
The seat, which the NDC wrested from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 election, is a key battleground, and Mr. Chiragia has assured that it will remain under NDC control.
Despite losing in last year’s NDC primaries, Mr. Chiragia pledged his full support to his successor, Simon Aworigo.
He emphasized that the NDC’s confidence is not solely based on the current economic hardships faced by Ghanaians, but also on the tangible developmental projects he implemented during his tenure as MP.
Speaking to ExpressNewsGhana in Parliament after the party flagbearer’s recent tour of the Upper East Region, Mr. Chiragia called on his constituents to back the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, and the party’s parliamentary candidate, Simon Aworigo, in the upcoming December 7 general election.
“As we prepare for the 2024 general election, I will continue to work closely with the constituency executives and the new candidate to retain the parliamentary seat for the NDC and build upon the foundation I have laid,” Mr. Chiragia said.
Highlighting the NDC’s track record in delivering development to the constituency, Mr. Chiragia urged the electorate to support Mahama as President and Aworigo as the new MP.
“Let’s not make any mistakes on December 7. We have a duty to rescue this country, and we can only do that by voting out the underperforming Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government and electing Mahama and Simon Aworigo. We’ve done it before, and I believe we will stay on track,” he emphasized.
As a member of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, Mr. Chiragia also encouraged voters to choose candidates capable of improving their living standards.
He underscored the need for tolerance among supporters of different political parties to maintain peace during the elections.
Addressing a large crowd in Navrongo as part of his tour of the Upper East Region, former President John Mahama praised Mr. Chiragia for his leadership and political maturity.
He urged party supporters in Navrongo to prioritize unity and reiterated his commitment to sustainable development in the region.
Navrongo Central is considered a swing constituency, with both the NDC and NPP having each won four parliamentary elections since 1992.
The NDC claimed victories in 1992, 1996, 2012, and 2020, while the NPP triumphed in 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2016. The 2024 election is set to be fiercely contested as both parties vie for control of this key constituency, with Simon Aworigo representing the NDC and Alhaji Abdallah Otito Achuliwor running for the NPP.
