The Ghana Police Service has firmly refuted allegations circulating on social media regarding the training of militia personnel in Bawku, located in the Upper East Region.

In a statement shared across its official social media channels, the Service clarified that investigations have uncovered no evidence to support these claims.

The Police Service emphasized that this is the second instance within a week of misleading reports being spread by individuals with the intent to incite fear and panic among the public.

“The Ghana Police Service has noted with concern a publication alleging the training of some militiamen at Bawku in the Upper East Region. We wish to state that our investigation has found no evidence of such training in the area or its environs,” a portion of the post read.

The statement further assured Ghanaians that efforts are underway to identify and prosecute those responsible for disseminating the false information.

The Police have urged the public to remain calm and avoid being swayed by such baseless reports intended to disturb the peace.

“This is the second such false publication within a week by some unpatriotic individuals intended to create unnecessary alarm and panic among the public. The Police are working to bring the perpetrators to book and the public should be assured that we will get them,” the statement concluded.

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to ensuring the security and stability of the country, encouraging citizens to report any suspicious activities through official channels while refraining from spreading unverified information.

This development comes amid heightened concerns in Bawku, a commercial town that has experienced tensions in recent years due to conflicts. Authorities continue to stress the need for responsible journalism and fact-checking, particularly in areas prone to instability, to prevent the escalation of unnecessary fear and unrest.
