A fire outbreak occurred in Parliament on Tuesday morning, August 27, 2024, but fortunately, no casualties have been recorded.

According to a statement by the Public Affairs sub-division of Parliament, the National Fire Service is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Here is the full statement

“An office on the mezzanine floor of the Job 600 Building of Parliament caught fire today. The fire was quickly contained by the Ghana National Fire Service.

Parliament wishes to assure the public that there were no casualties, although the extent of damage is yet to be determined. Parliament is grateful to the Ghana National Fire Service for their prompt response to the incident.

As a precautionary measure, the Clerk to Parliament, in consultation with the Rt. Hon. Speaker, has directed that all Members of Parliament and Staff vacate the precincts of Parliament and return tomorrow, Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

A skeletal staff will, however, be on hand to deal with any exigencies.
