The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) strongly condemns the rampant destruction of Ghana’s water bodies, forest cover, and environment due to illegal mining (galamsey).

This devastation, driven by greed, it said poses a grave threat to the well-being of Ghanaians and the country’s future.

The Association calls on its members to join the national crusade against galamsey, exposing individuals and groups complicit in these illegal activities.

In a statement signed by its President, Edwin Arthur, PRINPAG emphasizes the need for members to resist any influences that could compromise their efforts.

It urged members to publish names and pictures of those involved on the front pages of their newspapers and websites, holding them accountable to the public.

The association calls on Parliament to demonstrate leadership in this fight, acting without partisanship, and considering only the long-term welfare of the nation.
It also urges other state institutions to act responsibly in mitigating environmental destruction, enforcing laws governing environmental sustainability, and leveraging technology to address environmental challenges.

In the coming days and weeks, PRINPAG said it’s members will engage in a “naming and shaming” campaign to expose those involved in illegal mining, ensuring accountability and showing that no one is above the law.

Illegal mining has become a significant threat to our environment, water bodies, and the very survival of our communities. We must act now to stop this menace and protect our nation’s future,” said Edwin Arthur, President of PRINPAG.

The association warns that members found directly involved in galamsey or attempting to sabotage the fight against it will face expulsion.

PRINPAG pledges its support to the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining and urges its members to support the coalition’s efforts to minimize the effects of the galamsey menace.

The fight is collective, and PRINPAG is ready to contribute to the national effort to protect Ghana for future generations.
