Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, widely known as ‘Napo,’ has called for a peaceful election on December 7 to sustain the developmental gains made over the years.

He emphasized that the country’s progress can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and unity, urging all citizens to commit to maintaining national harmony.

Napo highlighted the importance of protecting the current peace enjoyed in the country, particularly appealing to chiefs and religious leaders to spearhead efforts for peaceful polls.

He noted that Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, which has facilitated successful presidential elections through the ballot box, has earned the country global recognition for its democratic credentials.

“Ghana’s name is being praised globally because we have proven ourselves as a democratic giant in Africa and the world at large, which is a positive achievement for us all,” he remarked.

“As we approach another general election, we must all contribute to ensuring that it is as peaceful as previous ones.”

Speaking to chiefs and religious leaders in Kwapong, Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region on Tuesday, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) vice-presidential candidate urged traditional and religious leaders to use their respected roles in society to promote peace.

Napo also appealed to political parties to avoid violent activities as electioneering campaigns gain momentum.

He encouraged political actors to focus on sharing their policies and development plans, warning that the politics of insults and insinuations could incite violence.

“We must remember that we have only one Ghana, and after the elections, we will unite as one people to develop our country,” Napo advised.

He also expressed concern over recent violent incidents in the Ahafo Region, describing them as a threat to national peace, and urged security agencies to take decisive action. He called on law enforcement to act swiftly against any individuals or groups found attempting to destabilize the country.
