Ghana Selected to Host 2026 World Assemblies of God Fellowship Congress Due to Peaceful Coexistence
Ghana has been chosen to host the 2026 World Assemblies of God Congress, marking the first time the global event will be held in Africa.
Rev. Dominic Yeo, Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship and General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Singapore, disclosed this during a press conference on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, in Accra,
Rev. Yeo praised Ghana for its longstanding commitment to peaceful coexistence amid political and religious diversity, citing it as a “cardinal prerequisite” for the country’s selection as host.
“Ghana has demonstrated that it is the beacon of hope for Africa by democratically and peacefully electing its political leadership every four years,” he said. “Ghanaians continue to coexist peacefully, irrespective of their political, religious, or ethnic differences.”
He urged the nation to maintain its peaceful atmosphere during the upcoming elections.
“We commend all Ghanaians for their tolerance and urge that the upcoming elections be held in the same peaceful manner as previous ones. We in the Assemblies of God worldwide are standing with you in prayer because the scriptures enjoin us to pray for the nations in which we dwell, so we can worship our God in peace.”
The 2026 congress is expected to bring significant economic benefits to Ghana, boosting its global profile, attracting investors, and promoting tourism.
With about 86 million members globally, 24 million of whom are in Africa, the World Assemblies of God Fellowship anticipates delegates from nearly every country to attend the event in Accra.
Rev. Yeo highlighted the church’s mission under the MM33 program, which aims to plant one million churches by 2033.
“We are now, more than ever, a globally connected movement of God spanning many countries. We’re seeking the Lord and taking steps to grow to one million churches by the 2,000th anniversary of Jesus Christ’s resurrection and the Day of Pentecost in 2033,” he said.
Also present at the press conference were Rev. Doug Clay, Vice Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, Juan Carlos Escobar, Secretary to the World Assemblies of God Fellowship and Rev. Stephen Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana and Vice Chairman of Africa Assemblies of God Alliance.

Rev. Yeo emphasized the importance of unity and prayer, saying, “We believe that all political, security, and other actors in the electoral process will do their jobs well in the interest of peace. The mission shall continue from then and beyond!”
