Anyone Opposing Forensic Audit of Voter Register is More Dangerous than a Coup Plotter – Alhaji Sinare
Alhaji Said Sinare, former ambassador and chairman of the Zongo Caucus Working Committee of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly criticized those opposing the party’s call for a forensic audit of the voter register.
Speaking during the “Enough is Enough” demonstration against the Electoral Commission (EC), Alhaji Sinare declared that the demand for an independent audit of the electoral register and IT system is a democratic move that all peace-loving Ghanaians should support.
Explaining the need for a forensic audit, Sinare accused the Jean Mensah-led EC, which he described as aligned with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), of unlawfully transferring over 15,000 voters without their knowledge, in violation of electoral laws.
He argued that the NDC and other concerned Ghanaians will not allow the current EC to undermine Ghana’s hard-won democratic system.
“We will never allow an NPP-exposed EC to jeopardize our democracy,” Sinare said, emphasizing that while Ghanaians face economic challenges under the Bawumia-led Economic Management Team, peace and democracy must be preserved.
He warned that the NDC will not stand idly by as the EC prepares a “fraudulent electoral register” ahead of the upcoming December 7 election.
Alhaji Sinare stressed that the NDC is committed to defending Ghana’s three decades of democratic progress, initiated by the party’s founder, the late Jerry John Rawlings.
Calling on civil society, religious leaders, and Ghanaians at large to back the NDC’s demand for a forensic audit, Sinare declared that “anyone who opposes this audit is more dangerous than a coup plotter.”
He assured the public that the NDC is determined to ensure a credible election and urged Ghanaians to stand firm as the party works to defeat the NPP at the polls and “reset the nation.”
Sinare concluded by calling on the Electoral Commission to heed the NDC’s demands and implement an audit of the voter register to address irregularities, warning that the party will not tolerate any attempts to rig the election for any candidate.
