EC Must Provide Justification for Disqualification of Presidential Aspirants-Dafeamekpor

The Electoral Commission (EC) must do more than simply announce that certain Presidential Aspirants have been cleared to participate in the December 2024 General Elections, Hon Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Member of Parliament for South Dayi has said.

The EC in a press statement on Friday, September 20, said it has cleared 13 aspirants qualified as candidates to run for the December 7, election.

The Commission has however disqualified eleven of the aspirants without a public stated reason

This, Hon Dafeamekpor in a X post said, “it is essential that the Commission also disclose the reasons for disqualifying other candidates. This lack of transparency raises serious concerns regarding the integrity of the electoral process.

“Those who have been disqualified have a right to understand the grounds for their disqualification so that they can appeal the EC’s decisions if they choose to do so. It is imperative that the EC conduct its operations with accountability and clarity,” he stated.
