Ghana’s Minister for Information, Hon. Fatimatu Abubakar, has affirmed the country’s readiness to share its experience in implementing the Right to Information (RTI) law with Namibia.

The Minister disclosed this when a delegation from Namibia’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technology paid a courtesy call on her on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 in Accra.

The Namibian delegation, led by the Deputy Director of Production, Mr. Shasimana Uugulu, expressed interest in learning from Ghana’s best practices regarding both the RTI law and the Brand Ghana initiative.

The discussions also focused on strengthening bilateral relations, combating misinformation, and exploring the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two ministries for knowledge sharing and expertise transfer.

Hon. Abubakar emphasized the importance of political commitment in driving the Brand Ghana agenda and urged Namibia to encourage its diaspora to reconnect with their roots.

She also assured Namibia of Ghana’s readiness to provide technical support in implementing its RTI law and developing the Brand Namibia project.

The Information Minister extended an invitation to the Namibian delegation to attend the global conference on the International Day for Universal Access to Information, scheduled to be held in Accra from October 1-2, 2024.

The Namibian delegation included several key officials, among them Mr. Fillemon Johannes, Deputy Director of ICT Development; Mr. Reagan Malumo, Deputy Director of Audio-Visuals; Ms. Florence Hafene, Deputy Director of the Namibia Film Commission; Bertha Amakali, Director of the Information Directorate at the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation; and Ms. Jacky Hindjou, 1st Secretary at the Namibian High Commission.
