The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana is for the first time in the country’s history, broadcasting the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting live today, Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

This forms part of the EC’s efforts to promote transparency and accountability as Ghana prepares for the December 7 general elections.

This unprecedented move will allow the public to watch the proceedings of an IPAC meeting in real-time.

In a statement, the EC clarified that the choice to go live was not influenced by external parties, including the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which had previously pushed for public broadcasts of IPAC meetings.

The NDC has welcomed the EC’s decision, expressing optimism that the live broadcast will allow Ghanaians to assess the fairness of the electoral process. This shift in the EC’s approach comes after the Commission had initially resisted calls for live coverage, stating it was unnecessary.
