Ahead of the upcoming December 7 general elections, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korley, has taken the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party’s 24-hour economy policy to Adabraka Market.

The move is part of a campaign to engage with traders and address concerns over the country’s economic challenges.

Dr. Zanetor, who is also a key member of the NDC, emphasized that the 24-hour economy policy is a practical and implementable solution designed to revitalize Ghana’s ailing economy and combat the high unemployment rate.

She argued that under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, led by President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Bawumia, the country has experienced economic mismanagement, which has resulted in rising living costs and joblessness.

The MP for Klottey Korley expressed disappointment with critics who claim the 24-hour economy policy is unachievable or already in effect.

She noted that such policies have successfully addressed unemployment in several developed countries and assured that it could be equally effective in Ghana.

During her tour of Adabraka Market, Dr. Zanetor engaged with market women, traders, and their leaders, listening to their concerns about the current economic difficulties.

She discussed the NDC’s vision for a revitalized economy, citing key initiatives such as the 24-hour economy policy, the Women’s Bank, and various social interventions aimed at reducing unemployment and alleviating economic hardship.

On the subject of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, Dr. Zanetor clarified that the NDC does not intend to cancel the policy when it returns to power in 2025.

However, she pointed out that the NDC advocates for a review of the policy to ensure it is more effective and inclusive, thereby improving its delivery for all Ghanaians.

Dr. Zanetor also highlighted several initiatives she has implemented as an opposition MP, and those the NDC plans to pursue if elected.

These include improvements in infrastructure, the elimination of the double track system in schools, decentralization of food procurement, and the establishment of a dedicated funding source for the Free SHS policy.

Addressing the poor state of the Adabraka Market, Dr. Zanetor lamented the insecurity in the area, particularly following recent daytime armed robberies.

She also raised concerns about the frequent power outages affecting businesses, especially those with cold storage facilities.

One of the key promises made during the engagement was the creation of a Women’s Bank, which Dr. Zanetor assured would prioritize market women by offering soft loans and other business incentives to help improve their enterprises.

Concluding her visit, Dr. Zanetor appealed to the traders and residents to vote for the NDC Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, and to re-elect her as their Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle.

She urged voters to support the NDC’s vision for a better, more prosperous Ghana.
