Kwaku Ansah-Asare Calls for Arrest of Lands Commission Officials over Alleged State Capture
Legal expert and former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kwaku Ansa-Asare, has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to take immediate action against officials of the Lands Commission, accusing them of orchestrating what he describes as the “looting and capture” of state lands and properties.
In a discussion on Onua TV on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, Ansa-Asare accused the commission’s officials of corruption, alleging they have been illegally selling lands that rightfully belong to the state and its citizens. He singled out several individuals appointed by President Nana Akufo-Addo, naming National Chairman Alex Quaynor, Executive Secretary Arthur, and Greater Accra Regional Chairperson, Surveyor Odanu Sowa, as key figures in the alleged malpractice.
“The state capture we’ve been talking about is coming from the Lands Commission,” Ansa-Asare stated, urging the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to arrest these officials. He emphasized that lands that were allocated to the government as far back as the 1950s have been sold off improperly.
Ansa-Asare, who claims to be a victim of the commission’s activities, shared how land belonging to his family was unlawfully sold by the Lands Commission. Despite filing complaints and petitions, he said no action had been taken due to the appointments made by President Akufo-Addo.
“I have petitioned the minister and asked for these officials to be interdicted, but nothing has happened,” he said. “I am pleading with President-elect Mahama, if he comes to office, the first thing he should do is arrest them.”
Ansa-Asare’s call for the prosecution of the Lands Commission officials highlights ongoing concerns over land management and corruption in Ghana.
