K.T. Hammond Demands Apology and Retraction from Captain Smart over Defamatory comments
Kobina Tahir Hammond, also known as K.T. Hammond, has called on Captain Smart, a prominent radio host, to publicly apologize and retract unsavory comments made against him.
In a letter signed by his legal counsel, K.T. Hammond, the Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, expressed his displeasure over remarks made by Captain Smart during a broadcast on his Anua FM show.
The comments, according to Hammond’s legal team, were defamatory and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
The controversial remarks were made in a video clip that circulated widely on social media, where Captain Smart, along with a co-host, allegedly misrepresented Hammond’s statements.
The legal letter claims that Captain Smart attributed the following statements to Hammond: “He said, ‘How can an Ewe person be the one to take the seat from me?’” and “Why would an Ewe person be the one to take the seat from me in the Ashanti township?”
The letter further alleges that these statements were both false and malicious, causing significant distress to Hammond.
According to K.T. Hammond’s legal counsel, the statements were not only untrue but amounted to serious libel, which harmed his personal and professional reputation.
The letter demands an immediate public apology and retraction, along with an undertaking from Captain Smart not to repeat these allegations.
Hammond’s legal team has also hinted at the possibility of seeking substantial compensation for the damage caused to his reputation and emotional well-being. They have requested that Captain Smart cover all legal expenses incurred during this matter.
The letter sets a deadline for a satisfactory response by Wednesday, December 18, 2024. If no esponse is received, legal action, including the issuance of a writ, will be pursued.
K.T. Hammond’s legal team emphasized that all rights remain reserved.
