“Hope Is Very Much Alive” in Afram Plains South – MP Declares After Re-election
Joseph Appiah Boateng, the re-elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Afram Plains South, has declared that “hope is very much alive” in the constituency after securing victory in the December 7, 2024 general election.
Speaking to ExpressNewsGhana in Parliament, Boateng, popularly known as “JAB 1,” expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by the people of Afram Plains South.
“It is the highest privilege of my life to serve as the Member of Parliament, through both challenging and prosperous times, as we navigate difficult waters and calmer seas together. It is an honour to lead a people who believe that anything is possible, where we say with conviction, ‘the best is yet to come,’” Boateng stated.
He commended the electorate for their resilience and unwavering support, despite attempts by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to sway their vote with inducements.
Boateng emphasized that their belief in his leadership is a testament to their strength as a community that endures, survives, and thrives against all odds.
However, he also acknowledged that there is still much work to be done. “Our job is far from finished,” he said. “We must choose action over indifference, make decisions based on experience while looking to the future, and always work for the greater good.”
Looking ahead, Boateng outlined his priorities for the next four years, focusing on strengthening unity within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), advocating for development projects to boost the local economy, and addressing pressing issues such as unemployment, housing shortages for teachers, healthcare access, telecommunication infrastructure, and neglected educational facilities.
He promised to continue working hard to improve the constituency, emphasizing that his commitment to the people of Afram Plains South is unwavering.
“I will not renege on the promises I made to my people,” he affirmed.
Boateng also shared his vision for a future where Afram Plains South enjoys quality healthcare, affordable and accessible education, and better job opportunities for the youth, and widespread access to the internet for both students and businesses. “I envision a constituency where children are safe, where every home has access to reliable services, and where development is felt by all.”
As he closed his remarks, Boateng reflected on the journey ahead. “Together, we will face both difficult and prosperous times. We will work together with civility, compassion, and common sense, ensuring that we protect our environment, care for one another, and build a constituency that thrives for generations to come.”
He also extended heartfelt Christmas and New Year greetings to the people of Afram Plains South, reaffirming that their needs will remain his top priority.
Boateng won the election with a historic margin, securing 11,876 votes (51.05%) against his closest rival, Jacob Zineyele of the NPP, who garnered 7,578 votes (32.58%). Independent candidates Grace Nudonu Abra Adiepena and Iddrisu Seidu Ibn-Swalah received 3,701 votes (15.91%) and 108 votes (0.46%), respectively.
