Madam Deborah Wengam, the late mother of Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, has been laid to rest after a burial ceremony on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

The ceremony took place at the State House, where President John Dramani Mahama, accompanied by Chief of Staff Mr. Julius Debrah, offered his condolences to the bereaved family and extended his support during this difficult time.

The funeral saw the presence of many prominent figures, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, and former Chief Justice Theodora Woode, among others.

In an emotional tribute, Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam expressed deep gratitude to his mother, acknowledging that he owes much of who he is today to her unwavering love and sacrifices. As the only surviving child of Madam Deborah Wengam, who lost three other children, Rev. Wengam recalled painful moments when his mother was unfairly accused of witchcraft, with rumors suggesting that she had caused the deaths of her children. Despite these harsh allegations, he praised his mother for her strength and resilience in the face of adversity.

Rev. Wengam also shared how his mother used her last resources to ensure he received the best education, highlighting the deep sacrifices she made for his well-being and future.

The sermon was delivered by Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of the Pentecost Church, who encouraged Christians to not fear death, emphasizing that death has already been conquered by God.

The ceremony was a testament to the love, strength, and sacrifices of Madam Deborah Wengam, as well as the enduring legacy she leaves behind in her son, Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam.
