President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. James Klutse Avedzi as the new Director-General of the Ghana Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), effective immediately.

This development comes after the termination of Rev. Daniel Ogbarmey Tetteh’s appointment as SEC boss ¹.

Dr. Avedzi, a former Chairman of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and Member of Parliament for Ketu North Constituency, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

His appointment was communicated through an official letter from the Office of the President, signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama ².

As part of the transition, Rev. Ogbarmey Tetteh has been directed to hand over his responsibilities to Dr. Avedzi, who will oversee the Commission’s operations in the interim.

Although the reasons behind Rev. Ogbarmey Tetteh’s termination were not disclosed, industry stakeholders are optimistic about Dr. Avedzi’s ability to lead the SEC effectively ¹.

Dr. Avedzi’s priorities are expected to include maintaining stability in Ghana’s capital markets, reassuring market participants, and promoting sustainable investment practices.

His leadership comes at a critical time, as Ghana seeks to deepen its financial markets and attract more investment.
