Appointments Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor Responds to Criticisms of His Leadership
——Reaffirms Commitment to Fairness
The Chairman of the Appointments Committee and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, has addressed recent criticisms regarding his leadership, reaffirming his commitment to fairness and democratic principles within Parliament.
In a social media post reflecting on the week’s legislative activities, Hon. Ahiafor described the period as both “demanding and inspiring” while assuring Ghanaians of his dedication to ensuring “constructive discourse, fair proceedings, and the best interests of the nation.”
The statement follows accusations that Hon. Ahiafor has not demonstrated enough authority in his leadership, particularly during the Appointments Committee’s public hearings. Critics have pointed to the perceived dominance of the Minority Leader, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, in committee proceedings, raising concerns over the Chairman’s ability to maintain order and assert control.
Despite the criticism, Hon. Ahiafor remains confident, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in strengthening Parliament’s institutions, enhancing policy implementation, and addressing critical national issues.
“While challenges persist, our collective resolve remains firm. Through collaboration, dedication, and resilience, we will continue to make meaningful progress for the people of Ghana,” he stated.
As parliamentary vetting continues, all eyes will be on Hon. Ahiafor to gauge how he navigates these challenges and asserts his leadership amid growing scrutiny.
