Ahiafor Condemns Afenyo-Markin’s Remarks, Calls for Apology to Appointment Committee Clerk
Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of the Appointments Committee in Parliament, has strongly refuted claims made by Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, regarding the lack of reports from the Committee’s vetting process.
Afenyo-Markin has repeatedly asserted that he has not received any report on the vetting, accusing the Committee’s Clerk, Gifty Jiagge Gobah, of being “partisan and unprofessional.”
In response, Ahiafor dismissed these accusations, emphasizing that the Minority Leader’s claims were false. According to Ahiafor, Afenyo-Markin is always personally handed the draft report during meetings, either directly by himself or the Clerk.
“There is nothing that the Clerk has done that has not been authorized. Your allegation that you are not seeing the draft report is unfounded,” Ahiafor stated.
The First Deputy Speaker expressed his dismay over the verbal attack on the Clerk and called on Afenyo-Markin to issue an apology.
“It’s uncalled for. He must render an apology to the Clerk of the Committee,” Ahiafor insisted, highlighting the need for respect towards the Clerk, who he said carries out her duties under their direct instructions.
