Empowering Women and Youth in Dormaa East is My Priority – Rachel Owusuah
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Dormaa East in the Bono Region, Hon Rachel Owusuah Amma, has reiterated her unwavering commitment to implementing initiatives that will have a positive impact on the lives of her constituents, with a focus on empowering women and youth.
During an interview with ExpressNewsGhana in Parliament on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, Owusuah emphasized that her target is to uplift women and young people, particularly school dropouts, acknowledging their significant role in national development.
She promised to improve the living standards of her constituents and fulfil the trust they have placed in her.
Highlighting her development agenda, the MP outlined three key priorities: addressing youth unemployment, empowering women, improving access to quality education, and meeting the health and water needs of the people of Dormaa East.
“Education is the foundation of our development,” she affirmed, underscoring her commitment to supporting youth and women.
Madam Owusuah expressed confidence that the interventions planned during her tenure would break the cycle of poverty in the constituency.

While she acknowledged progress in education, health, and water in Dormaa East, she stressed the need for further improvement in these areas.
She expressed optimism that the government under President John Mahama would undertake significant development projects for Ghana, including those in Dormaa East.
“My people chose me because they trust my ability to drive development,” she remarked. “They see me as a leader focused on progress, and I will not let them down.”
The Dormaa East MP emphasized education as a cornerstone of her development plan, with initiatives aimed at supporting schoolchildren, particularly those in Senior High Schools, Tertiary institutions, and vocational training centers.
Additionally, she plans to offer incentives to teachers, encouraging them to remain in remote areas and serve the community.
While acknowledging that road construction falls within the mandate of central government, Hon Owusuah promised to lobby the relevant ministries and agencies to improve the road infrastructure in the constituency.
On health, she stressed the need for more Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds to ease the burden on district hospitals and health centers.

Another challenge highlighted by the MP was the rising rate of teenage pregnancies and school dropouts at the basic level. Owusuah vowed to address these issues through heightened awareness campaigns aimed at curbing teenage pregnancy.
“This is a serious concern, and I draw motivation from it to ensure that we provide more relief and reduce poverty in Dormaa East,” she concluded.
With a strong focus on development, Rachel Owusuah is determined to bring lasting change to her constituency, ensuring a better future for women, youth, and all residents of Dormaa East.
Hon Owusuah also commended the Speaker for his swift intervention and subsequent lift of suspension on the four MPs after they exhibited bad attitude during vetting of Ministers.
