Chairman of Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, has publicly criticized Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin for his inability to adapt to his new role in opposition.

Speaking on Joy News, Ahiafor expressed frustration with Afenyo-Markin’s posturing, which he believes makes collaboration challenging.

Afenyo-Markin and his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have accused the Clerk of the Appointments Committee, Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, of partisanship and bias.

However, Ahiafor dismissed these allegations, stating that the Clerk operates transparently and fairly.

According to Ahiafor, Afenyo-Markin’s confrontational stance stems from his previous role as Majority Leader, which has made it difficult for him to adapt to the dynamics of opposition leadership.

“It’s about time he realizes that he is no longer Majority Leader, but he’s a Minority Leader,” Ahiafor argued.

Ahiafor emphasized that parliamentary procedures dictate that Clerks take instructions from Committee Chairpersons, not Ranking Members.

He believes Afenyo-Markin is unwilling to accept this fact, often forgetting that he is operating from a Minority point of view.

The tension between Ahiafor and Afenyo-Markin has been escalating, with Afenyo-Markin previously criticizing Ahiafor’s conduct during the vetting process.

The situation highlights the challenges of transitioning from a Majority to a Minority role and the need for adaptability in parliamentary leadership.
