Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo, the Member of Parliament for Bibiani-Ahwiaso-Bekwai in the Western North Region, has provided GHS 350,000 in interest-free loans to market women in his constituency. The funds were distributed at a durbar attended by women from various towns and villages within the area.
The MP explained that the initiative aimed to help women expand their businesses and meet the demands of family needs
Hon. Brefo shared his passion for empowering women, noting that they are central to eliminating poverty in the constituency. He emphasized that the loan consideration was based on the willingness of the women to promote and grow their businesses in order to support their families.
The MP also announced plans to establish a skill training fund to support women and youth entrepreneurs in business in the constituency.
In an interview with ExpressNewsGhana, Hon. Brefo discussed his parliamentary experience and his vision for the constituency.

He described his role in Parliament as both exciting and challenging, explaining that while legislators focus on lawmaking, the people of his constituency expect development. This has required him to actively lobby for projects from various ministries, even as the government works to finalize its funding processes.
Looking ahead to the next four years, the MP outlined his plans to continue addressing the needs of his constituency. One of his key promises was to ensure easier access to loans for women, particularly those who struggle with collateral requirements.
He highlighted the National Women Development Bank, which aims to facilitate access to soft loans for women, and reiterated his commitment to supporting this initiative.
Hon. Brefo also discussed his plan to commercialize the 6th March festival, an important cultural event in the constituency.
With his efforts, the festival will be celebrated for an entire week, providing an opportunity for local women to benefit financially. This initiative has already seen the distribution of GHS 350,000, enabling 450 women to access funds for business ventures.
In addition, the MP shared his vision for infrastructure and education, including the dualization of a major road in the constituency, the construction of an Islamic secondary school, and the establishment of modernized markets.
He remains hopeful that the ongoing development projects, such as the planned market in Sefwi-Bekwai, will be completed by the end of his term.
Hon. Brefo concluded by expressing his dedication to his constituents and his determination to fulfil his promises over the next four years.
