Dear Nyaaba,

The world stands at a crossroads, with a generational shift looming over governance, economics, technology, and social transformation. Are the youth interested in and ready to take over the running of the world? The answer, though not straightforward, is both encouraging and challenging.

Undoubtedly, young people today are more informed, connected, and engaged than any generation before them. The digital revolution has equipped them with tools for activism, innovation, and leadership. Across the globe, youth-led movements are challenging corrupt governments, advocating for climate action, and disrupting industries with fresh entrepreneurial ideas. They are no longer waiting for power to be handed to them; they are demanding it.

But does interest translate into readiness? That is where the dilemma lies. While many young people are eager to lead, the structures of governance, business, and global policymaking are still largely controlled by an older generation unwilling to relinquish authority. Experience, wisdom, and patience—qualities that often come with age—remain indispensable in leadership. Can youthful enthusiasm be tempered with the strategic thinking and resilience needed to govern effectively?

Moreover, there is the question of responsibility. While youth energy is undeniable, readiness requires discipline, sacrifice, and a commitment to long-term goals over short-term gains. The distractions of social media, consumer culture, and sometimes a sense of entitlement can undermine the very leadership they seek to build.

The future, however, is inevitable. Whether the world is ready or not, the youth will inherit it. The challenge is ensuring that this transition is guided, rather than chaotic. The older generation must invest in mentorship rather than mere obstruction, and the youth must recognize that power is not just about taking charge but about being prepared to serve.

So, are the youth interested? Absolutely. Are they ready? That depends on how well they prepare. The future is knocking—will they answer wisely?

Respectfully yours
