The Member of Parliament (MP) for Pru East, Hon Emmanuel Kwaku  Boam  has expressed his deep appreciation for President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to advancing agriculture in Ghana.

In his reaction of the President message on the state of the nation in parliament on Thursday, February 27, 2025, address, the MP highlighted the importance of agriculture to his constituency, which is renowned for its vast arable lands.

“The emphasis on feeding industries and ourselves as Ghanaians resonates deeply with me,” he shared. “From day one, I have been dedicated to ensuring that my people are provided with innovative job opportunities in agriculture. The key to achieving this lies in harnessing the natural resources we possess.”

Mr Boam further noted that the administration’s plan to expand irrigation and establish farming centers across the country is a crucial step in transforming agriculture. “We are moving away from traditional farming methods like using a cutlass and wool. Instead, we are focusing on mechanization to boost productivity. This is exactly what the people have been waiting for, and I’m excited to see it becoming a reality.”

He also praised the President’s vision for the future, which includes initiatives aimed at attracting more youth into agriculture, particularly through the establishment of farming centers. “Agriculture is the food basket of the economy,” he said.

“Any country that invests relentlessly in agriculture will thrive. We’ve seen the NDC government, under President Mahama, consistently focus on harnessing the full potential of the agricultural sector, and this is vital for our country’s growth.”

The MP expressed strong support for the President’s plan to expand the Tema Harbour to Bupe and Yape, which will connect to Yeji. “This expansion will create significant business opportunities for my people,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of improved transport links for economic growth.

Hon Boam said he has long been an advocate for the use of water transport, particularly the Votlta Lake, to move goods and services. “I have always believed in leveraging our water bodies for transportation,” he explained. “The cost of building roads is often prohibitive, but investing in river transport could reduce costs by as much as 50%. Innovations in water transport, such as boats capable of ferrying cars and large haulage across the lake, will open new possibilities.”

He expressed confidence that the country’s transportation sector would greatly benefit from these developments, particularly as the Ministry of Transport has been tasked with improving water, aviation, and road transport infrastructure. “This is a groundbreaking direction for us,” the MP said. “It brings hope and will breathe life into areas that have long been overlooked.”

The MP reiterated his optimism for the future, noting that the President’s initiatives are not only promising but will significantly boost the nations agricultural and transport sectors
