President Mahama to Embark on Official Visit to Burkina Faso Today
President John Dramani Mahama is set to undertake a working visit to Burkina Faso today, Monday, March 10, 2025. During his stay in Ouagadougou, the Ghanaian leader will meet with his Burkinabe counterpart, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, to strengthen bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.
The discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation across areas of mutual interest, leveraging the strong historical and geographical ties that bind Ghana and Burkina Faso.
Additionally, the leaders will address regional security concerns, particularly in the Sahel region, as well as broader sub-regional stability and key global geopolitical developments. Their meeting is expected to reinforce the strategic partnership between the two nations.
This visit marks President Mahama’s first official trip to Burkina Faso since he assumed office on January 7, 2025, following his victory in the December 2024 elections. It highlights Ghana’s commitment to regional diplomacy and collaboration with its West African neighbors.
As part of his broader diplomatic efforts, President Mahama’s visit is aimed at strengthening ties with ECOWAS member states and addressing regional security challenges, especially in relation to the newly established Alliance of Sahel States.

The visit follows a recent diplomatic tour by President Mahama to three Sahelian countries—Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso.
In February, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, revealed that President Mahama had played a leading role in negotiations aimed at facilitating the reintegration of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso into ECOWAS.
This visit underscores Ghana’s dedication to fostering strong regional cooperation and advancing peace and stability within the West African sub-region.
