Over 200 Muslims Benefit from LIFE’s Ramadan Food Basket Program in Koukoum Community
Over 200 Muslims in the Koukoum community and surrounding areas in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region have received food donations as part of the 2025 Ramadan Food Basket Program, organized by Life for Relief and Development, a USA-based non-governmental organization (NGO).
The initiative, aimed at providing food to vulnerable and marginalized Muslims during Ramadan, ensures that beneficiaries can fast with ease throughout the Holy Month.
Alhaji Farouk Umar Ibrahim, Country Director of LIFE, confirmed that the program benefited more than 200 individuals in the region, with each food basket containing essential items such as rice, oil, sugar, spaghetti, milk, and tea leaves.
“For the past several years, LIFE for Relief and Development has been distributing food to thousands of beneficiaries in Ghana through our local office,” Ibrahim explained. “This year’s initiative in Koukoum and its surrounding villages is part of our continued effort to support families during Ramadan.”
The food baskets are designed to cater to families for the entire fasting month, with each basket providing enough supplies to sustain at least six people.
Ibrahim emphasized that the distribution process prioritizes the most vulnerable groups, including orphans, the elderly, single mothers, widows, and individuals with physical disabilities.
“This program has become a symbol of hope for many families, offering them much-needed support during Ramadan,” Ibrahim added. “It ensures that hundreds of families have access to nutritious food throughout the month of fasting.”
LIFE for Relief and Development has a long-standing history of supporting communities across Ghana. In addition to the annual food aid program, the organization has donated health equipment to hospitals, provided educational materials, and paid school fees for vulnerable children and orphans in recent years.
Ibrahim highlighted that these efforts are part of LIFE’s commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians through sustainable and impactful humanitarian projects.
“Our interventions reflect our dedication to uplifting communities across the country,” he concluded. “We are proud to continue our work in Ghana, helping to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
