The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), in the Central Region, has withdrawn 38 Level 100 students for failing to meet the minimum academic performance requirements.

The decision, communicated through a memo dated March 7, 2025, was signed by Dr. Mohammed Adam, Head of the Faculty of Social Science Education, Department of Social Studies Education. According to the memo, the affected students failed to achieve the minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.0 and did not pass the required number of courses, even after resit examinations.

The university conducted a comprehensive review of the students’ First and Second Semester Examination results for the 2023/2024 academic year. The memo stated that students were given prior counselling before their withdrawal was finalized.

As a result, the students are no longer permitted to attend Level 200 lectures, participate in mid-semester and end-of-semester examinations, or engage in any further academic activities at that level. Faculty members have been instructed to update course registers to reflect these changes.

The decision has sparked mixed reactions among students and stakeholders. While some argue for leniency and additional support measures, others commend the University for Upholding Academic Standards.

The University of Education, Winneba, maintains that the withdrawal aligns with its policy of ensuring academic excellence and maintaining high educational standards.
