The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has launched a Legal Support Desk at its headquarters in Accra to provide legal assistance to its members.

A statement jointly signed by its Executive Secretary, Jeorge Wilson Kingson and the President, Edwin Andrew Arthur indicated that the initiative aims to support members who may require legal services in the course of their professional work.

The decision to follows recent incidents involving invitations, arrests, and detention of editors and publishers over stories published in their outlets.

“PRINPAG’s National Executive Council has arranged for dedicated lawyers to be on standby to provide legal support services to members in need.”

*Members who receive an invitation, are arrested, or detained by any security agency in relation to their professional work can access the legal support services.

“Members are encouraged to promptly contact the PRINPAG Secretariat for legal assistance,” the statement partly read.

PRINPAG however urges its members to remain professional, responsible, and ethical in the discharge of their duties as media practitioners.

PRINPAG’s Mission

PRINPAG is dedicated to promoting a strong independent media practice and professional status of its members. The association has formal representation at the National Media Commission and other constitutional bodies recognized by the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

Support Services

The Legal Support Desk is part of PRINPAG’s efforts to safeguard and protect the rights and privileges of its members.

The association also provides training workshops, awards ceremonies, and welfare support to its members.
