In celebration of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr, over 230 underprivileged children from communities across Accra were treated to a festive party and food distribution event, organized by Life for Relief and Development (LIFE), a U.S.-based non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to humanitarian support.

The event, held at Marina Lakeside Park near Botwe, brought together orphans from Madina, Botwe, Nanakrom, Adenta, and surrounding areas, offering them a rare opportunity for celebration filled with music, food, and social interaction.

Dubbed the “Global Orphans Party,” the celebration is an annual initiative by LIFE and its partners, held in countries around the world during the Eid-el-Fitr period. The aim is to spread joy and foster inclusion for orphaned and disadvantaged children.

Speaking to ExpressNewsGhana, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, Country Director for LIFE in Ghana and West Africa, explained that the Global Orphans Party is designed to offer a moment of happiness to children who may otherwise miss out on the Eid festivities.

“Eid al-Fitr is not only a time of spiritual reflection but also a period of joy, sharing, and giving. For many orphans, there is no one to provide gifts or special meals, so LIFE steps in to fill that gap,” he said.

Alhaji Ibrahim emphasized that LIFE’s mission goes beyond food donations. The organization has consistently supported the education, health, and welfare of hundreds of orphans in Ghana, with over 20 beneficiaries currently enrolled in tertiary institutions.

“Allah is pleased with those who care for orphans, even if it’s just placing a hand on their shoulder. That is the spirit we carry,” he stated.

Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan—the Islamic holy month of fasting—is traditionally celebrated with feasts, family gatherings, and acts of charity. Special foods such as dates and sweets are common during the occasion, and many Muslims give gifts and send greetings to loved ones.

“This event is not just about food; it is about restoring dignity, joy, and a sense of belonging to these children,” Alhaji Ibrahim noted, adding that LIFE remains committed to easing suffering and providing aid where it’s most needed.

Beneficiaries at the event expressed heartfelt gratitude. Many children were seen joyfully trying on new clothes they received and enjoying their Sallah meals. Some took the opportunity to offer prayers for the organization’s continued success.

“We are so happy. We now have food and new clothes like other children. May God bless these good people,” one of the children said.

Community leaders and caregivers also praised the organization for its consistent support over the past five years. “LIFE has been a pillar for these children. From food to shoes and other essentials, they have always come through,” one caretaker said.

With smiles all around, the 2025 edition of the Global Orphans Party left a lasting impact on the children of Lakeside and its neighboring communities—marking another milestone in LIFE’s ongoing mission to bring hope to the less privileged.
