The Member of Parliament for Suhum, Hon. Frank Aseidu Bekoe, has launched a campaign against drug abuse among youth in the constituency.

The initiative, dubbed “Life Not Poison,” aims to create awareness about the dangers of opioid abuse, particularly the use of a substance known as “Red” or “Wo Nim Red.”

Background of the Campaign

The campaign was launched on April 22, 2025, at Suhum, with stakeholders from various sectors, including the clergy, imams, chiefs, community leaders, police, immigration, and health services.

Hon. Bekoe emphasized the need for collective action to protect the youth and promote a safer, healthier community.

Key Objectives

The campaign, the MP said is to raise awareness to educate the public about the risks associated with opioid abuse.

He said it will help prevent young people from falling prey to substance abuse.

In addition, Hon Bekoe said the campaign would inevitably engage communities to promote a culture of health and well-being.

He however called for collective support to reduce the risk of losing the young ones to drubgs.

An Action Group has been inaugurated to lead the campaign, comprising representatives from various stakeholders.

The group will focus on grassroots community engagement to address the issue of drug abuse.
