Staff of Navrongo Health CentreThreaten to Suspend Services Over Poor Sanitation
Health workers at the Navrongo Health Centre have issued a strong warning: they may suspend medical services if urgent action is not taken to resolve worsening sanitation conditions at the facility.
The threat follows the recent dismissal of all casual staff, including cleaners, leaving the health centre without any cleaning support. This has led to the rapid accumulation of filth, raising serious health concerns for both patients and staff.
Speaking anonymously due to fear of victimisation, several health workers described the situation as unbearable.
“We are already working under stressful conditions with limited resources. Now we are expected to operate in an environment that puts our lives and those of our clients at even greater risk,” said one staff member.
Another staff member voiced frustration over being asked to take on cleaning duties in addition to their medical responsibilities.
“The authorities want us to come and sweep the place ourselves when in fact we have to be attending to sick patients. How can we combine the two?”
The staff are demanding that the municipal health authorities urgently reinstate cleaning personnel or provide an immediate alternative to restore sanitary conditions and prevent the potential closure of services.
Community members who depend heavily on the Navrongo Health Centre have also raised concerns. They are calling on local authorities to step in swiftly to prevent any disruption in healthcare delivery.
When contacted, municipal health officials acknowledged the situation and confirmed that steps are being taken to engage with staff and find a sustainable solution.
