Volta Regional Minister Commissions Three Water Projects to Tackle Water Crisis
The Volta Regional Minister and Dean of the 16 Regional Ministers, Hon. James Gunu, has commissioned three vital water projects in the region as part of the government’s “Water for All” initiative, aimed at addressing long-standing water challenges faced by communities across the region.
The projects, inaugurated on May 15, are expected to significantly ease the burden of water scarcity, a persistent issue affecting many rural and peri-urban areas in the Volta Region.
“The lack of access to safe and reliable water has been a major challenge for our people. Today’s commissioning marks a concrete step in addressing that concern,” Hon. Gunu stated during the ceremony.
The commissioned projects include:
A mechanized borehole fitted with a polytank system at Taviefe Clinic to support the health facility and surrounding community, which has struggled with access to clean water.
The complete rehabilitation of a broken-down borehole in Klefe Achatime, which had been non-functional for over seven years, leaving residents to depend on unsafe water sources.
A newly constructed borehole in Klefe Demete, a community that had endured years of severe water shortages.
“These projects symbolize not just infrastructure, but hope and improved health for our communities,” Hon. Gunu said. “It is our collective duty to ensure these facilities are protected and maintained for long-term use.”
He expressed his gratitude to local chiefs, assembly members, and residents for their continued support and partnership, emphasizing the government’s commitment to delivering basic social amenities to improve the quality of life for all.
Water scarcity remains a pressing concern in many parts of the Volta Region, especially in remote communities where residents often walk long distances in search of water. The “Water for All” initiative seeks to bridge this gap by providing sustainable water infrastructure across the region.
The Volta Regional Minister assured that more water projects were in the pipeline and called for continued community involvement to ensure the success and sustainability of such interventions.
