Parliamentary Select Committee on Agric and Cocoa Affairs Undertakes Oversight Visit to COCOBOD
As part of its oversight responsibilities, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs on Monday, May 19, paid a working visit to the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to gain firsthand insight into the operations of the Agency.
Led by its Chairman, Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, the Committee engaged in an extensive consultative session with the management of COCOBOD, headed by CEO Dr. Randy Abbey.
The meeting focused on key issues affecting the cocoa sector, including the growing debt burden, declining cocoa production levels, inefficiencies in management practices, and the need for a comprehensive legal framework to reposition the cocoa subsector for accelerated economic transformation.
As part of its parliamentary mandate to provide oversight, the Committee examined the effectiveness of current policies and offered critical feedback aimed at improving institutional performance.
The engagement resulted in the development of pragmatic policy recommendations and improved management proposals expected to address the prevailing challenges, boost cocoa production, and generate employment opportunities for the youth.
The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that agriculture, particularly the cocoa sector, becomes more appealing and accessible to Ghana’s growing youthful population.
