UBA Marks Africa Day with Bold Push for Financial Growth
United Bank for Africa (UBA) has commemorated Africa Day with a renewed commitment to championing financial inclusion and driving economic development across the continent. Celebrated annually on May 25, Africa Union Day was marked by UBA last Friday under the theme of unity, progress, and empowerment.
Henry Nii Dottey, Regional Head for Marketing and Corporate Communications at UBA West Africa, emphasized the bank’s belief in the continent’s vast potential.
“UBA believes passionately in Africa. We are dedicated to developing the continent by leveraging African resources to build the Africa that Africans want,” he stated.
This aligns with the vision of UBA Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, who is a staunch advocate of “Africapitalism”—a philosophy that champions African-led development using local talent, innovation, and resources.
In line with this vision, UBA has introduced transformative banking solutions designed to break down barriers and connect Africans financially.
Notable among these is UBA Connect, which allows customers to send and receive money across 20 African countries using just a national ID—no bank account required.
Another innovation, the “One Account, 20 Countries” feature, enables seamless banking across borders, allowing customers to access their accounts and carry out transactions in any of UBA’s operating countries. This initiative underscores the bank’s mission to drive economic integration and connectivity within Africa.
To inspire deeper dialogue around African development, UBA is also hosting the “Up Africa Conversations”—a thought leadership series featuring renowned experts who share strategies for sustainable growth.
This year’s event featured a leading economist who outlined actionable steps for building a prosperous, self-sufficient continent.
Additionally, UBA is supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through its Africa Continental Free Trade and Loan Facility, offering vital funding and resources to help businesses expand and thrive across borders.
As Africa Day is celebrated, UBA reaffirms its commitment to empowering African communities through inclusive financial services, innovation, and strategic partnerships.
With a strong belief in Africa’s future, the bank continues to lead the charge in creating a financially empowered and economically vibrant continent.
