Dr. Yvonne Commodore-Mensah, a distinguished cardiovascular nurse epidemiologist and global health equity advocate, has been promoted to the rank of Full Professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, marking a historic milestone in her career and for the institution.

A trailblazer in her field, Dr. Commodore-Mensah becomes the first core faculty member within the Center for Cardiovascular Health Equity to hold a primary appointment in the School of Nursing.

Her elevation to full professorship underscores her groundbreaking contributions to research, education, and health equity across the globe.

An alumna of Wesley Girls’ High School in Ghana, Dr. Commodore-Mensah holds a PhD, MHS, and RN, and is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Nursing and the American Heart Association.

She is internationally recognized for her work improving cardiovascular health outcomes among populations of African descent in both the United States and Africa.

Her current research portfolio includes leading several high-impact initiatives, such as: ADHINCRA Program: A project aimed at improving hypertension control in Africa.

LINKED-BP and LINKED-HEARTS: U.S.-based interventions designed to enhance chronic disease care and management.

In addition to her research, Dr. Commodore-Mensah serves in several leadership roles, including:

Director of the Glocal Cardiovascular Health Equity Lab, Co-Director of the Cardiometabolic Health Interest Group at Johns Hopkins.

President and Co-founder of the Ghanaian-Diaspora Nursing Alliance (G-DNA), a growing network of over 3,000 nurses dedicated to strengthening the nursing profession in Ghana.

Her influence also extends through her service on various national boards, including the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association, the Horizon Foundation, and the Nursing is STEM Coalition.

This latest appointment reflects not only her academic excellence but also her steadfast commitment to tackling health disparities and mentoring the next generation of global health leaders.
