The Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West, Hon. Rudolf Amoako-Gyamerah, has renewed calls on the government to prioritize the completion of the Ayanfuri–Dunkwa and Subin–Nipanikro road projects, citing their immense economic and strategic importance to the region and the country at large.

Speaking in an interview with ExpressNewsGhana, Hon. Amoako-Gyamerah emphasized that the current deplorable state of these road networks is severely hampering local economic activities, particularly for farmers, traders, and transport operators who rely heavily on them to transport goods and services across communities and beyond.

The call was made following a question the MP posed to the Minister for Roads and Highways on the floor of Parliament in Accra.

“Mr. Speaker, I rise to ask the Minister for Roads and Highways what plans the Ministry has to complete the following road projects which were started by the previous government: (i) Ayanfuri–Dunkwa Road (ii) Subin–Nipanikro Road,” he queried.

In response, the sector Minister, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, acknowledged the importance of the roads and disclosed that although work had commenced under a previous administration, the contractor has since vacated the site.

He noted that efforts are being made by the Ministry to engage the contractor again once financial resources become available.

Nevertheless, Hon Amoako-Gyamerah  said the Ayanfuri–Dunkwa Road The Ayanfuri–Dunkwa road is a critical transportation corridor that links major parts of the Central, Western, and Ashanti Regions.

According to him, it serves not only as a conduit between the gold-producing towns in the Western and Central regions but also as a vital link to Kumasi, the commercial hub of Ghana.

He said completing this road would enhance Trade and Market Access as the route is essential for transporting agricultural produce, timber, and minerals.

He added that, farmers and traders from Upper Denkyira and adjoining districts depend on this road to access larger markets in Kumasi, Takoradi, and Accra, emphasizing that, the area is rich in gold and other minerals.”

He explained that, a reliable road network will reduce transportation costs for mining companies and create more job opportunities for local youth.

“I must say that this road will facilitate the socio-economic development. It is a fact that, better roads improve access to health care, education, and government services for residents in rural and underserved communities. Beside that, this road connects the Central Region through Dunkwa to the Western Region via Ayanfuri, and further up to the Ashanti Region. Its completion will reduce travel time, improve safety, and foster regional integration.

Hon. Amoako-Gyamerah therefore appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to treat the project with urgency, stressing that the completion of the road will not only transform lives in his constituency but also catalyze broader economic development across the three regions.

He called for bipartisan support in pushing the government to release funds for the resumption and completion of the project without further delays.
