The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has assured that Ghana stands ready to support Niger’s nation-rebuilding journey.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Consultative Council for Rebuilding the Republic of Niger, Mr. Bagbin emphasized Ghana’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Niger.

He explained the deep historical and blood ties between the two countries.

Commitment to Regional Cooperation

Speaker Bagbin reiterated Ghana’s commitment to working with Niger and other AES countries to protect their citizenry from terrorism and enhance trade. He noted that the appointment of a Special Envoy to the AES by President John Dramani Mahama underscores this commitment.

Nation-Building Efforts

The Speaker commended Niger’s efforts to establish a Consultative Council, citing Ghana’s own experiences with participatory governance and nation-building.

He proposed that the Council take interest in Ghana’s ongoing Constitutional Review process and share experiences.

Regional Challenges and Opportunities

Mr Bagbin highlighted the common challenges facing West African states, including economic development, youth empowerment, climate resilience, and regional security.

He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in addressing these challenges.
