Ghana is bolstering its climate leadership with a strengthened strategy focused on enhancing local resilience, regional advocacy, and establishing itself as a climate-conscious nation in West Africa. Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Alhaji Baba Seidu Issifu, has emphasized the need for collaboration among sector ministries, district assemblies, and national disaster management bodies to protect vulnerable communities from climate change impacts.
“We must work together to build a response system that is not only reactive but preventive,” the Minister stated, highlighting the goal of attracting financial and technical resources to scale up sustainable solutions.
Key initiatives include establishing climate and sustainability units in sector ministries and climate desks in district assemblies to drive advocacy, community engagement, and project monitoring. The Minister stressed that behavioral change is crucial for climate adaptation and that grassroots engagement is essential.
A National Climate Hub will be launched to provide research, policy, data collection, and climate finance leadership, serving Ghana and the sub-region. The hub will support advocacy, capacity building, and real-time support for civil society organizations, researchers, and development partners.
“Ghana is ready to lead,” the Minister declared, positioning the country as a climate leader in West Africa.
