Minority Leader and MP for Effutu, Hon. Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has reaffirmed his commitment to educational support by extending financial assistance to needy but brilliant students.
The intervention came when members of the Volta Student’s Association (VOSA) of the University of Ghana paid a courtesy call on him. During the meeting, he presented GH¢105,000 to cover the tuition fees of 33 students for the academic year.
Sharing his personal story, Osahen Afenyo-Markin revealed that his own struggles with financial hardship during his school days nearly cut short his dreams. He urged the students never to succumb to despair but to remain steadfast in pursuing their aspirations despite challenges.
“It is with great pride that I support one of my own. Education remains the greatest equalizer, and I will always stand by students who show determination and promise,” he said.
This gesture forms part of his broader educational initiatives, which include:
Scholarship schemes for tertiary students in Effutu and beyond.
Provision of learning materials to under-resourced schools.
Mentorship programs to inspire leadership and academic excellence.
Support for school infrastructure, including libraries and ICT centres.
Career development opportunities through internships and training placements.

Osahen Afenyo-Markin also charged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity, stressing that their success would inspire future generations.
“Don’t abuse this opportunity, and don’t let yourself down. Your success is not just for you but for the next generation you will inspire,” he told the students.
The Minority Leader’s intervention, he noted, reflects his conviction that investing in education today secures a brighter future for Ghana tomorrow.
VOSA President, Χονί Gideon Senator, expressed deep appreciation, describing the support as “a great honour and blessing,” and assured that the funds would be used responsibly to ensure academic success.
