Preserve Apostle Safo Kantanka’s Legacy—Speaker Bagbin Urges Adwoa Safo and Siblings

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has urged the children of the late Apostle, Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka to remain united and work together to preserve their father’s remarkable legacy.

Speaking when a delegation from the Safo Kantanka family, led by the former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, paid a courtesy call on him to officially announce the passing of the industrialist and founder of Kristo Asafo Mission and Kantanka Automobiles, the Speaker described the late Apostle as “Africa’s rising star” whose contributions to science, innovation, and faith transformed lives.

Rt. Hon. Bagbin commended the late Apostle Safo’s dedication to humanity and Ghana’s industrial development, saying he had demonstrated that “Africans can produce and innovate using their God-given talents.”

He recalled past efforts by Parliament to support the production of locally made vehicles by Kantanka Automobiles and lamented that the initiative was never fully implemented.

Touching on the need for unity in the Safo family, the Speaker advised the children to avoid disputes over their father’s estate, noting that “nobody fights over the legacy of a poor person.”

He cautioned that many wealthy families had destroyed their fortunes through infighting, and urged them to honour their father by working together to protect what he built.

“I just pray that the rumors of division are not true,” the Speaker said. “Your father spent his life teaching you to be self-reliant. Please don’t let what he worked for be dissipated. Let his uniqueness remain.”

Addressing speculation that Adwoa Safo voted for him during the 2021 Speaker elections, Mr. Bagbin clarified that although he considers her his “daughter,” she did not vote for him. “She voted for her party’s position, not for me. I know those who voted for me,” he emphasized, adding that the misconception had unfairly been used against her.

The Speaker assured the family of Parliament’s support during the funeral arrangements and said he would attend the ceremony if available.

Meanwhile, the late Apostle’s passing on September 11, 2025, has sparked public debate over succession within the Safo family. In a statement, the family cautioned the public against dealing with any individual, including Kwadwo Safo Jnr, as a representative of the family in matters relating to the late Apostle’s businesses or funeral arrangements.

Rt. Hon. Bagbin advised the children to remain united and in strength to celebrate Apostle Safo’s life and continue his mission of service to God and humanity.
