Bawumia’s Momentum Surges: 63 NPP MPs Declare Unwavering Support

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer contest took a decisive turn today as 63 Members of Parliament publicly declared their unwavering support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

At a press conference in Accra, the MPs representing a commanding majority of the party’s 87-member parliamentary caucus described Dr. Bawumia as the best candidate to unite the NPP and secure victory in the 2026 general elections.

“This is not just about 63 votes. Each MP represents a constituency, a network of hundreds of polling station executives and coordinators. When we speak, we speak for our people,” asserted Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, MP for Bantama.

The declaration signals a major boost for Dr. Bawumia’s campaign, giving him an early advantage ahead of the January 2026 delegates’ congress. Analysts say the endorsement demonstrates growing parliamentary confidence in his leadership and could shape perceptions of inevitability among delegates.

Beyond symbolism, the MPs’ backing provides access to local campaign infrastructure — offices, vehicles, logistics, and grassroots networks — across all regions, effectively transforming the Bawumia campaign into a nationwide movement.

Political strategists note that in past NPP primaries, candidates who enjoyed the strong support of MPs often carried that momentum into the wider delegate elections.

Dr. John Domfeh, one of the MPs, underscored the significance of the move: “This is not about 63 people — it’s about an entire national wave consolidating behind Dr. Bawumia. The caucus has spoken, and the party is listening.”

The full list of MPs includes prominent names such as Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Dominic Nitiwul, Samuel Abu Jinapor, Mustapha Ussif, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, and Habib Iddrisu, among others.
