MP Calls for Swift Action after Immigration Officer’s Death and Military Attack in Tempane

The Member of Parliament for Tempane and Minister for Public Sector Reforms, Hon. Lydia Lamisi Akamvariba, has strongly condemned two violent incidents that have shaken the Tempane Constituency, the fatal shooting of immigration officers and an alleged assault on civilians by military personnel.

In a statement issued on 3rd November 2025, the MP expressed deep sorrow over the tragic killing of an immigration officer at Nagani on 2nd November, when unknown gunmen attacked two officers on duty. One officer reportedly lost his life, while the other sustained serious injuries.

“Violence of this nature is reprehensible, unacceptable, and a direct affront to the rule of law,” Hon. Akamvariba said, extending condolences to the bereaved family and the Ghana Immigration Service.

The MP, however, expressed equal concern over the actions of the military in Basyonde, where soldiers allegedly invaded the community the following day and assaulted residents.

“Reports indicate that soldiers brutally attacked innocent residents who were going about their normal daily activities. Several people have been injured, and fear now grips the community,” she stated.

Hon. Akamvariba described the military’s conduct as “unacceptable and unjustifiable,” stressing that the innocent must never be punished for the crimes of a few.

She has called on the government, the Ghana Armed Forces, and security agencies to take the following actions:

Conduct a transparent and urgent investigation into both incidents.

Hold accountable all perpetrators of violence, whether civilians or security officers.

Restore peace and trust in the affected communities through lawful and constructive engagement.

“As your Member of Parliament, I assure you that your safety, dignity, and rights will always remain my priority. I urge all residents to remain calm and law-abiding as investigations proceed,” she added.

The two incidents have sparked widespread concern in the Upper East Region, as residents call for justice and restraint from all sides.
